Ready for a walk!

Sept. 10th

Here is a pic of the two of us after my cousin Ashley's wedding.

Aug. 4th

4th of July

Here is Scooterbug with his new friend Lily. She is only 1 day old, and 10 days younger than Scooter.

Birth Story

It all started Saturday morning at about 1am. I kept waking up because I was uncomfortable. I didn't realize at the time that I was having contractions. I got up and turned on the tv about 6:30. The contractions were 20 or 30 minutes apart. I called my midwife and my doula around 10 just to let them know that things were going on. Mackey and I went shopping and to Chick-fil-a for lunch. That afternoon I got in the bathtub, this definitely slowed the contractions. I managed to sleep a little that afternoon. We went out to dinner that night. At that point the contractions were 10 minutes apart or less. I decided then, about 8:30, that I needed to be at home. Labored at home as long as possible, mostly in the bathtub. We finally left for the hospital around 3:30am. We stopped at SteaknShake to get Mackey something to eat. I couldn't stand to be sitting forward, so I rode in the back seat, facing the back. When we got there Mackey was apparently freaking out because our midwife and doula weren't there yet. I remember feeling excited right as we got there. When I got the the room, I was not excited about sitting back on the bed with the monitor on, and the nurse was having a hard time getting it on right. Thankfully my midwife got there soon and I only had to lay there with the monitor while she checked me. I was 8 cm!! I was really worried on the way that I would only be 4cm and I would have so much farther to go! At that point I got into the tub. The next few hours are blurry in my memory. I didn't see much outside the tub. The doula was there putting counterpressure on my back and giving me juice. Mackey was there holding my hand and encouraging me. I pushed for about 1.5 hours. I was very focused, so I don't remember a lot.
Scooterbug was born at 9:08am. He came out right into the tub. The midwife said, "Grab him!" So Mackey grabbed him up out of the water and put him on my chest. He was very calm and didn't cry. He looked up at me with big dark eyes. It was perfect. The midwife had to pinch his butt to get him to cry. Also, the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice, but it didn't affect his heartbeat any time during labor. I held him in my arms for about 20min. and then Mackey cut the cord. After that Mackey held him while I got out of the tub and into the bed. Scooterbug was 6lb10oz, 19.5 in. We went home healthy the next day. The whole experience was calm, peaceful, wonderful.

Birthday Pics

Scooterbug is now 4 months old, but I thought I would post some of his birthday pics. I couldn't really picture a waterbirth before I saw the tub, so now you know what kind of tub he was born in. I had no IV, no continous fetal monitor, no interventions. It was basically me in the tub with hubby and doula alongside. My midwife came around every now and then to check is heartbeat - inbetween times she was napping in the rocking chair.
